How would you feel if it was your child that is being strangled on the bus?

Bullying is a real problem! We all know it is. And even though this movie is being made in America and American schools, what happens in the UK is just as real.

Bulling has been around since the beginning of civilisation, and it isn’t going to go away any time soon. Of course most schools are trying to do something about this ever growing problem, but schools can only do so much. It makes me sick, when that teacher/headteacher from that school said that the kids on that bus are “as good as gold”, meanwhile a child is being punched, straggled and pushed around.

But when you think about it, if they don’t know it is going on, how can they do anything about it?

I strongly believe that bullying starts with the kids, and therefore, must end with the kids. At Evade, we teach children how to be independent, we give them the confidence to stand up for themselves and say no! And if that fails, they know the worlds most effective self defence techniques, so that they can defend themselves from physical abuse and have an extremely good chance of coming out ok.

How would you feel if it was your child that is being strangled on the bus? How would you feel if your child were the one who feels the only way out is to take their life?

At Evade, we strive to make a difference, and every child that walks through our door has an advantage over 99% of other children out there.

Give your child the advantage, try our BullyProof Program completely FREE for 30 days, and see the real value behind what we do, and what we can give your child.

Check out this video of Luke McDonnell dead-lifting 192.5KG (425lbs) weighing only 85KG at just age 18! Luke has achieved his goal, after one year of solid, consistent training, and this is what he had to say:

“it feels great to know that all the hard work I put in, and all the time I spent working with the staff at Evade has paid off! Its amazing knowing that I can pull more than twice my body weight from the ground. I really appreciate how much Evade’s staff has motivated me.”

Evade is all about achieving goals, those who already train here know it! And even though every individual has different goals, we are all working towards the same thing… achieving them!

Our staff strive to make sure that you are always progressing to where you want to be, whether that means taking extra time with you or developing a knew program, we work extremely hard to help you get the result you DESERVE.

Happiness can only be found if you free yourself from all other distractions. --Saul Bellow

Happiness can only be found if you free yourself from all other distractions. –Saul Bellow

Here is a list of 15 things which, if you give up on them, will make your life a lot easier and much, much happier. We hold on to so many things that cause us a great deal of pain, stress and suffering – and instead of letting them all go, instead of allowing ourselves to be stress free and happy – we cling on to them. Not any more. Starting today we will give up on all those things that no longer serve us, and we will embrace change. Ready? Here we go:

1. Give up your need to always be right. There are so many of us who can’t stand the idea of being wrong – wanting to always be right – even at the risk of ending great relationships or causing a great deal of stress and pain, for us and for others. It’s just not worth it. Whenever you feel the ‘urgent’ need to jump into a fight over who is right and who is wrong, ask yourself this question: “Would I rather be right, or would I rather be kind?” Wayne Dyer. What difference will that make? Is your ego really that big?

2. Give up your need for control. Be willing to give up your need to always control everything that happens to you and around you – situations, events, people, etc. Whether they are loved ones, coworkers, or just strangers you meet on the street – just allow them to be. Allow everything and everyone to be just as they are and you will see how much better will that make you feel.

“By letting it go it all gets done. The world is won by those who let it go. But when you try and try. The world is beyond winning.” Lao Tzu

3. Give up on blame. Give up on your need to blame others for what you have or don’t have, for what you feel or don’t feel. Stop giving your powers away and start taking responsibility for your life.

4. Give up your self-defeating self-talk. Oh my. How many people are hurting themselves because of their negative, polluted and repetitive self-defeating mindset? Don’t believe everything that your mind is telling you – especially if it’s negative and self-defeating. You are better than that.

“The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however, it becomes very destructive.” Eckhart Tolle

5. Give up your limiting beliefs about what you can or cannot do, about what is possible or impossible. From now on, you are no longer going to allow your limiting beliefs to keep you stuck in the wrong place. Spread your wings and fly!

“A belief is not an idea held by the mind, it is an idea that holds the mind” Elly Roselle

6. Give up complaining. Give up your constant need to complain about those many, many, maaany things – people, situations, events that make you unhappy, sad and depressed. Nobody can make you unhappy, no situation can make you sad or miserable unless you allow it to. It’s not the situation that triggers those feelings in you, but how you choose to look at it. Never underestimate the power of positive thinking.

7. Give up the luxury of criticism. Give up your need to criticize things, events or people that are different than you. We are all different, yet we are all the same. We all want to be happy, we all want to love and be loved and we all want to be understood. We all want something, and something is wished by us all.

8. Give up your need to impress others. Stop trying so hard to be something that you’re not just to make others like you. It doesn’t work this way. The moment you stop trying so hard to be something that you’re not, the moment you take off all your masks, the moment you accept and embrace the real you, you will find people will be drawn to you, effortlessly.

9. Give up your resistance to change. Change is good. Change will help you move from A to B. Change will help you make improvements in your life and also the lives of those around you. Follow your bliss, embrace change – don’t resist it.
“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls” Joseph Campbell

10. Give up labels. Stop labeling those things, people or events that you don’t understand as being weird or different and try opening your mind, little by little. Minds only work when open. “The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don’t know anything about.” Wayne Dyer

11. Give up on your fears. Fear is just an illusion, it doesn’t exist – you created it. It’s all in your mind. Correct the inside and the outside will fall into place.
“The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.” Franklin D. Roosevelt

12. Give up your excuses. Send them packing and tell them they’re fired. You no longer need them. A lot of times we limit ourselves because of the many excuses we use. Instead of growing and working on improving ourselves and our lives, we get stuck, lying to ourselves, using all kind of excuses – excuses that 99.9% of the time are not even real.

13. Give up the past. I know, I know. It’s hard. Especially when the past looks so much better than the present and the future looks so frightening, but you have to take into consideration the fact that the present moment is all you have and all you will ever have. The past you are now longing for – the past that you are now dreaming about – was ignored by you when it was present. Stop deluding yourself. Be present in everything you do and enjoy life. After all life is a journey not a destination. Have a clear vision for the future, prepare yourself, but always be present in the now.

14. Give up attachment. This is a concept that, for most of us is so hard to grasp and I have to tell you that it was for me too, (it still is) but it’s not something impossible. You get better and better at with time and practice. The moment you detach yourself from all things, (and that doesn’t mean you give up your love for them – because love and attachment have nothing to do with one another, attachment comes from a place of fear, while love… well, real love is pure, kind, and self less, where there is love there can’t be fear, and because of that, attachment and love cannot coexist) you become so peaceful, so tolerant, so kind, and so serene. You will get to a place where you will be able to understand all things without even trying. A state beyond words.

15. Give up living your life to other people’s expectations. Way too many people are living a life that is not theirs to live. They live their lives according to what others think is best for them, they live their lives according to what their parents think is best for them, to what their friends, their enemies and their teachers, their government and the media think is best for them. They ignore their inner voice, that inner calling. They are so busy with pleasing everybody, with living up to other people’s expectations, that they lose control over their lives. They forget what makes them happy, what they want, what they need….and eventually they forget about themselves. You have one life – this one right now – you must live it, own it, and especially don’t let other people’s opinions distract you from your path.

Completing a marathon is thought of by many as the epitome of health. But every year there are reports of people dropping dead before they cross the finish line.

Completing a marathon is thought of by many as the epitome of health. But every year there are reports of people dropping dead before they cross the finish line.

Such deaths, though uncommon, are not unheard of.

Eleven runners have died while running the London Marathon since it began in 1981, and every year a handful of runners die while competing in such events (one study put the rate of sudden cardiac deaths during a marathon at 0.8 per 100,000 participants).

What’s going on in these cases? Is marathon running really as “healthy” as it’s made out to be?

Heatstroke can certainly be a factor, as can hyponatremia — low sodium levels in the blood often caused by drinking too much water during exercise. However, in the vast majority of cases, people die during marathons because of a heart attack. Marathon running puts an extraordinary stress on your heart, one that your body was not designed for. It’s a classic example of a concept known as “the reverse effect” – where too much of something that is normally good for you can have the opposite impact. According to a study presented at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress 2010 in Montreal, regular exercise reduces cardiovascular risk by a factor of two or three. But the extended vigorous exercise performed during a marathon raises cardiac risk by seven-fold!

Researchers found that during a marathon more than half of the segments in your heart lose function due to an increase in inflammation and a decrease in blood flow, and this temporary heart damage may play a role in marathon deaths. Research by Dr. Arthur Siegel, director of Internal Medicine at Harvard’s McLean Hospital, also found that long-distance running leads to high levels of inflammation that may trigger cardiac events, and a separate study published in Circulation found that running a marathon lead to abnormalities in how blood was pumped into the heart.

There’s now overwhelming evidence indicating that conventional cardio or long-distance running is one of the worst forms of exercise there is, and even if you’re one of the lucky ones who does not end up suffering from a sudden cardiac event in the middle of a race, in the long run your heart health can still suffer.

Long-Distance Running Damages Your Heart

Do you pride yourself on running mile upon mile, week after week? Do you love the challenge and adrenaline rush that comes from completing a marathon?

Let me preface the information that follows by saying this: as many people I know have completed marathons, I understand the drive that pushes many athletes and weekend warriors to compete in these strenuous events. But now that I have examined the research, I firmly believe doing so may put your heart at risk. For example, two recent studies showed:

Heart damage after lifelong cardio: In a study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, researchers recruited a group of extremely fit older men. All of them were members of the 100 Marathon club, meaning athletes who had completed a minimum of 100 marathons. If running marathons provided cardiovascular benefit this would certainly be the group you would want to seriously examine. So what did they find?

Half of the older lifelong athletes showed some heart muscle scarring as a result, and they were specifically the men who had trained the longest and hardest.

Heart scarring after elite cardio training: An animal study published in the journal Circulation was designed to mimic the strenuous daily exercise load of serious marathoners over the course of 10 years. All the rats had normal, healthy hearts at the outset of the study, but by the end most of them had developed “diffuse scarring and some structural changes, similar to the changes seen in the human endurance athletes.”

Is There a Better Way to Exercise?

Science now suggests that the best fitness regimen is actually one that mimics the movements of our hunter-gatherer ancestors, which included short bursts of high-intensity activities, but not long-distance running such as is required to complete a marathon. The idea behind “hunter-gatherer fitness” is to closely emulate the actions that ancient man took on a daily basis. This is what your body is hard-wired for, after all, and includes such attributes as:

A variety of exercises performed regularly (weight training, cardio, stretching, etc.)

Alternate difficult days with easier days

Interval training sessions performed once or twice a week (Evade Thai/Kickboxing)

Weight training at least twice a week (Evade Fitness Suite)

Ample time for rest after physical exertion

Your exercise program should be challenging, as it was for our ancestors, but it should not be excessive and it should be paired with ample time for recovery. Just as too much strenuous exercise can hurt your heart, too little will not be enough to give you the benefits.

The good news is, the most recent research shows that relatively short bursts of intense exercise can deliver many of the health and fitness benefits you get from doing hours of conventional exercise.

By doing just a small amount of High Intensity Interval Training (like we teach here at Evade in our Fitness Suite or our Kickboxing Classes) for week to four weeks, you could see significant changes in important health indices. This is exactly what Master David Breed has been saying for years!

This is the first time that any of the children had performed to the public, and most came to Evade with little confidence, so this was a massive achievement for them!

“A RAPIST who told one victim who rejected his advances, ‘I don’t believe this, I’m a good-looking bloke’ was yesterday convicted of a string of sex attacks. Former soldier Brian Witty met two of his victims through a dating website and pounced on the others following chance encounters in bars, a court heard. The 41-year-old was found guilty of three rapes and one sexual assault between 1995 and last year. Police fear there may be more victims. Det Insp Michael Murfin said: ‘Brian Witty is a predatory rapist and I would urge anyone who thinks they may have been raped or sexually assaulted by him to contact the police in complete confidence.’

Witty, previously a Territorial Army Parachute Regiment captain, warned one of his victims that he had been in the forces and could do whatever he wanted – ‘even kill her’. One woman who rejected his cajoling for sex in his flat woke to find him raping her, the jury at Kingston-upon-Thames crown court was told. Prosecutor Edmund Gritt said: ‘What emerges from the four different accounts is one picture of one man who is determined to get what he wants and who will not take no for an answer.’ Witty, of Teddington, southwest London, will be sentenced on May 25.”

“WILMINGTON, Del.–A 7-year-old girl returned to her elementary school on Wednesday, three days after she was pummeled by a fifth-grade student in an attack on their school bus, an incident caught on video on another student’s cell phone.

The assault, which is being investigated both by Brandywine School District officials and state police, has prompted some changes to ensure students are safe when riding the bus to and from school, district Superintendent Mark Holodick said.” Continue to read here.

All I can say is, disgusting. Even though this is from America, it doesnt matter, it can still happen. How can we let our children go out into the world without having some form of knowledge about what to do in this situation? Not even the bus driver did anything about it.

This video speaks for itself. Bullying starts with the kids, and therefore, must end with the kids. We cant do it for them.

Skimping on Sleep to Work Out Could Backfire

Exercising is, hands-down, one of the best physical things you can do for your health.

Besides being beneficial for weight management, exercise can reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and depression, and it can increase your energy levels, help you think clearer, and slow down the aging process.

Unfortunately, exercise is also one of the first things that tends to fall by the wayside. And, even with the best intentions and follow-through, progress can stall and intentions can go away…

Shape magazine lists eight exercise mistakes that could be keeping you from getting the full benefit of your fitness program.

Interestingly enough, Martial Arts such as the Thai/Kickboxing we teach here at Evade is one of the best forms of exercise that can help you overcome these pitfalls.

Skimping on Sleep to Work Out Could Backfire

While I do recommend exercising first thing in the morning, I don’t advise sacrificing sleep to do so. Fortunately, you don’t have to! The research that has emerged over the past several years clearly indicates you don’t need to exercise for long periods of time—as long as you’re exercising correctly! As it turns out, the most effective and efficient way to work out is to ‘remember’ your ancestral roots, meaning, how humans used to move.

Both young children and animals clearly demonstrate the proper way to exercise: in short but aggressive or intense spurts with rest in between.

High intensity interval training like we do in our Thai/Kickboxing Program can mimic this, while teaching you an incredible Martial Art, and a growing body of research tells us the benefits from exercising this way are FAR greater than slow, long-distance forms of exercise. Interval training can dramatically improve your cardiovascular fitness and fat-burning capabilities in a fraction of the time–because you’re utilizing your body as it was designed to be used.

A high intensity interval session only requires a short amount of time, two or three times a week (as we recommend in our school) opposed to over an hour or more on the treadmill, several times a week. Getting enough sleep is an important aspect of health, and lack of sleep can hamper weight loss efforts and contribute to a wide range of health problems.

Bullies have been around since the beginning of civilization, and they aren’t going away any time soon. Most UK schools have put in place anti-bulling schemes to help stop bullying, however this doesn’t really provide a sound solution for a child who is targeted by a persistent bully. The string a highly publicized youth bullying incidents is evidence that schools cannot be entrusted with your child’s safety.

For generations we have been a very silent society when it comes to dealing with intimate assault, intimate abuse and intimate violence and there continues to be an obvious discomfort surrounding this issue.

Evade is involved in a martial arts movement to let the world know what we really do. While reading through some information, I got in touch with a woman called Mary Ann Ricciardi, she wrote a book called ‘Screaming through the silence’, this is an incredible book and would recommend it to anyone!

Please have a read of a article she wrote:

“For generations we have been a very silent society when it comes to dealing with intimate assault, intimate abuse and intimate violence and there continues to be an obvious discomfort surrounding this issue. I acknowledge we have made quite a bit of progress over the years with the many crisis centres, women’s shelters and rapes centers offering support and counsel to those in need. There are activists and advocates working globally to create positive change. But baby steps are excruciatingly slow when we know the number of assaults is so high and reports to law enforcement continue to be so low. Perhaps our silence and discomfort continues because we still do not understand the true reality of these crimes and the long-term emotional aftermath most survivors must endure.

Until we all have a better understanding of these crimes and until we all put the myths and misconceptions to rest, it seems futile to think we can solve the problem.

One of the most common social misconceptions is the belief that rape has something to do with sex. We speak of these crimes as sex crimes; sexual assault, sexual abuse and sexual violence, the terms themselves misleading as they insinuate that these offenses have something to do with sex. They do not. They have absolutely nothing to do with sex and everything to do with the power, control, humiliation and degradation of another human being.

These crimes are assaults on our physical being but more than that they are assaults on our spirit and our soul. The physical wounds can quickly heal, but the damage done to the spirit can take years, if not a lifetime to mend. These are crimes that cut deep into the most intimate part of our being, that sacred, spiritual core we all possess, our very essence, if you will. Ask any survivor of rape where his or her pain lies; they will tell you it is deep within the most intimate and fragile part of their shattered spirit. These are crimes of intimate assault, intimate abuse and intimate violence. They in no way resemble the loving, consensual act of sex.

Perhaps getting past this misdirected notion of sex playing a role in these crimes will make room for more honest, informed and comfortable conversation.

Victim-blaming seems to be another worn-out social practice that makes no sense. Insinuating that a rape victim is to blame for her (or his) own rape based on her morals or standard of living is unfair and unjust. It is illogical. The tiresome comments about what a particular person was wearing, or what he or she was drinking, who they were with, or where they were, hold no merit when determining who is responsible for committing the crime of rape.

When we blame the victim, we seem to be automatically dismissing and minimizing the criminal behavior of the perpetrator. At the same time, the emotional trauma inflicted on the victim has been dismissed and minimized. It is no wonder the cycle of silence continues-as does the cycle of violence.

I do not deny there are many foolish behaviors that put us at risk for possible harm. But foolish behavior does not determine whether or not we deserve to be the victim of a crime or that we are responsible for that crime. Rape is never the appropriate consequence for one’s foolish behavior. I can think of no other crime where the victim is put under such personal scrutiny as in a rape case. The rapists rape because they alone make that choice. There is no sharing in the responsibility.

I will never understand why we, as a society, would even consider shifting the blame. Why do we put so much energy into trying to find out what the victim did to deserve the rape? Perhaps victim-blaming is a great avoidance tactic used by society to keep from having to examine the reality and the frequency of intimate assault. This avoidance can naively and blindly keep us in our safe, protected comfort zone. If we do not acknowledge it, we can believe it is not happening. And if we believe it is not happening, we do not have to do anything about it. Perhaps a personal and honest examination of one’s inclination to blame the victim would reveal the reasoning behind this very misguided notion.

These crimes of intimate violence know no boundaries. The victims are male and female, young and old, every race, every social status. This is an issue that belongs to all of us. We must all pay attention. For many years the voices of activists, those leading the fight, have been female. We must be honest here and admit that males have not been comfortable speaking out in regards to this issue. But this is changing. More and more males are stepping up and paying attention. They are realizing that this issue also belongs to them and they can and must make a difference.

We need good, strong, decent men to be courageous enough to challenge other men’s behavior: family, friends, coworkers, business associates. I’m not talking about the “put up your dukes” kind of challenge. The challenge of conversation will do just fine. We must be mindful of the kind of role models we are to our young boys. We must teach our little boys that disrespect to any male or female is unacceptable. And our behavior must reflect that. The days of acceptance and tolerance of bad behavior must end. We can no longer afford to continue ignoring destructive words and behavior.

Silently shrugging off the brutish, tough guy remarks of others only serves as a pass for the offender to continue his behavior. He has not been challenged. He has not been made to stop and rethink his words and actions. The discomfort of stepping up and speaking out is a small price to pay. We have paid a far bigger price for our silence.

I am not too familiar with the martial arts world, other than what I have gleaned from various media. But there seem to be several positive components to this physical activity. The most obvious to me, as a woman, is the self-defense benefit, along with keeping a physically fit body. I would also assume this art plays a role in one’s mental and spiritual development. There seems to be a discipline in regards to how one uses the physical power of their body and a definite respect for these powers.

The self-defense tactics are obviously a plus for anyone who may feel vulnerable, but more importantly promoting self-respect and the respect of others can go a long way.

The martial arts community seems to be an example of how our strength as men and women is used to not hurt others. There is an opportunity within this community to make a difference in the fight against intimate assault. Lead by example.”

Concentrating on a Single Body Area is Counter-productive

Concentrating on a Single Body Area is Counter-productive

As tempting as it may be to believe you have to do 100 crunches a day to achieve washboard abs, the truth is that such spot-specific focus tends to fail miserably. One of the main reasons for this is that in order to achieve muscle definition, regardless of what area of your body you’re targeting, you need to lose fat, and spot-specific exercises like crunches are not an efficient way to boost fat loss…

High intensity exercises can make a dramatic difference here, because these exercises not only boost fat burning, they also automatically help create muscle definition all over your body, while simultaneously improving your aerobic fitness.

Higher intensity training in Evades Fitness Kickboxing classes will give you the greatest all-around benefits, and this form of exercise differs from others in that it benefits your entire body. This is because high intensity exercises sequentially recruit all the different types of muscle fibres in your body, starting with the smaller motor units made up of slow-twitch fibers—which are primarily aerobic in metabolism, have a lot of endurance, and recover quickly—to the intermediate fibres; followed by the fast-twitch fibers.

The key to activating your fast-twitch muscle fibers is intensity, or speed.

Your fast-twitch fibres are largely glycolytic and store a lot of glucose. When these muscles are recruited, it creates the stimulus needed to grow muscle. At the same time, it enlarges the glucose storage reservoir in the muscle, which in turn enhances your insulin sensitivity. Normalizing your insulin is one of the primary health benefits of exercise, and this is particularly true in the case of high-intensity exercise. Conventional aerobics does not do this as efficiently.

Activating your fast-twitch fibers also prompts your body to create human growth hormone (HGH), also known as “the fitness hormone,” which plays an important role in slowing down the ageing process.
